Project: HP WorkSite

HP Software, 2011–2014

WorkSite is a document and email management tool that consolidates content into a central, accessible library, enabling use across desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. It securely retains and tracks various media—paper and electronic documents, emails, and records—ensuring easy access and efficient sharing.

Joining HP Software in 2011, WorkSite was my first product. Over the next three years, I collaborated closely with the development team, refining the design through multiple iterations. This case study highlights my design process, with a focus on the iPad version of the application.

Design Iterations & Development

Enhance core features and improve existing functionalities

After establishing a new UI design pattern, in this stage, I took interaction design approaches to improve usability.. Based on customer requirements, I created user stories and workflows with updated mock-ups. I worked closely with the dev team as a design lead. We went through multiple iterations including one major releases of the product.

WorkSite 3: New Concepts & Design

Brainstorming Sessions

Apart from providing constant effort to keep WorkSite a well maintained product, we were also planning to make a significant UX and IA improvement for the next major release—WorkSite 3.

We were able to identify areas of focus based on user feedback and customer requirements collected. As a preliminary practice, I organized a number of brainstorming sessions with the design team to generate new feature concepts and design ideas.

Wireframing & Prototyping

Working with stakeholders and design/dev team, I chose some of the best ideas to solidify. I created wireframes and eventually an interactive prototype that showcased the new features and design concepts we were proposing.

Presentation: Next Generation UI for Mobile Application

The redesign of WorkSite was considered to be a success both externally and internally. To showcase our design effort, I was asked by the leadership team to prepare a presentation with two members from the dev team. We demonstrated what we considered to be the best new features and design concepts created for the application. With the support from the leadership team, we made an effort to utilize our design into a bigger scale and set directions for the next generation mobile design company-wide. Some design concepts eventually served as part of the interaction design guidelines alongside the UI/visual design standards within the company.
